- How long plant lives.
A=Annual-Plant normally lives for one season,
sets seeds, and dies.
B=Biennial-Plant lives for two years, producing leaves the first year, flowers and
seeds the second.
P=Perennial-Plant lives indefinitely. May need winter protection.
Sun2-Plants
sunlight preference.
FS=Full Sun-Plant prefers full sun all day long.
PS=Part Sun-Plant prefers sun only part of the day, or dappled sun all day long.
Sh=Shade-Plant prefers full shade. |
Hardiness3-Cold
tolerance of the plant.
(Not given for annuals.)
H=Hardy. Winter hardy plant, should survive some
freezing temperatures.
T=Tender-Plant will not survive frost or freezing
temperatures. Will need winter protection.
Growth4-Plant
growth during the winter. Not a measure of hardiness. (Not given for annuals.)
D=Deciduous-Plant loses leaves, retains woody
branches that produce leaves the following spring.
E=Evergreen-Plant retains leaves all year long.
H=Herbaceous-Plant dies to crown or to ground in winter, grows back in the spring.
