low  DF,F,M,O     $5.75
A pretty plant with deeply cut green leaves with gray undersides. Used to expel worms and for menstrual complaints. We heard that the psychoactively recreational use of mugwort in ale by pagans prompted the German beer purity law in 1516...makes a good story anyway.

Onion, Egyptian Walking / Tree Onion
(Allium
x proliferum)    O100
Perennial      2'      Full Sun
Part Sun       Hardy/Herbaceous     White   C     $6.75
A fascinating onion! Appealing because it's a perennial bunching onion, so you never have to replant it. Plant a few, and you'll never bother with mundane 'green onions' again. The very large, hollow scallion-like stems have great flavor, and can even be stuffed with an herb cream cheese. Or blanch (cover with dirt) the lower parts of the stems and use like leeks. Called a 'walking onion' because small bulblets appear on the tops of stems, and as they mature they fall over to the ground and root, starting a new plant. In this manner, they walk around the garden! Highly recommended!
Oregano, Cretan
(Origanum onites) O505
Perennial    1'      Full Sun–Part Sun       Tender/Evergreen   White  C,F
$5.75

A low growing plant with a very spicy burst of oregano flavor. Excellent in a meat marinade, or used sparingly in salad dressing. Try it with diced tomatoes and crumpled goat cheese over pita bread, then lightly broiled. Yum!

Oregano, Variegated Cuban
 (Plectranthus amboinicus)    O515X
Perennial    1'      Full Sun
Part Sun      Tender/Evergreen    White    C,F,O     $6.75
This Cuban oregano has beautiful variegated leaves of green and cream with pink serrated tips. The thick, large, succulent, serrated leaves have an unusual flavor and scent of oregano and thyme. We like dicing the leaves, sautéing them with garlic in olive oil, and adding them to black beans. A very authentic Cuban recipe!  A real eye catcher in the garden!
Oregano, Greek
(Origanum vulgare ssp. hirtum)    O530
Perennial     2'     Full Sun     Hardy/Herbaceous     White     C,F
    $5.75
This is the 'true' oregano from Greece, with the most 'true' oregano flavor. Greek oregano is widely considered  to be the best for cooking. It's an essential oregano in any kitchen herb garden. This is a good 'jumping-off' spot to explore the diverse world of oregano.
Oregano, Italian
(
Origanum species)
Perennial      2'      Full Sun      Hardy/Herbaceous      White   C,F  $5.75
The flavor of Italian oregano is a delightful cross between the robust flavor of Greek oregano and the perfumy-spicy flavor of sweet marjoram. We acquired cuttings of this plant from a friend whose great aunt brought it over on a ship when she came to America from Italy. The plant has been regarded as a treasured heirloom in her family for generations, and she has allowed us to share it with our customers. Excellent flavor!
Oregano, Syrian / Za’atar / Bible Hyssop
(Origanum syriacum)   O565
Perennial     2'      Full Sun
Tender/Herbaceous     White   C,O     $6.75

One of the essential ingredients in the Middle Eastern spice blend za’atar. This plant is also called "True Za’atar". It has a very spicy oregano flavor. It’s a delicious treat sprinkled over hot pizza. Used with the other za’atar herbs (Conehead Thyme and Za’atar Rumi), it is fantastic mixed with olive oil and brushed over a flat bread like pita bread and then quickly broiled. This is also the ezov, or hyssop mentioned in the Bible. The branches of this plant were used to sprinkle the blood of the lamb on the doors for Passover (Exodus 12:21-22), and to present the vinegar-soaked sponge to Christ just prior to his death (John 19:28-30). A truly historic herb. Needs well drained soil. Very rare!

Oregano, Turkish - Out of Stock
(Origanum x majoricum) O570
Perennial      2'      Full Sun      Hardy/Herbaceous      White   C,F
  $5.75
A delightful culinary oregano given to us by one of our Turkish friends. Not ‘earthy’ like Greek oregano, Turkish oregano has a more heady, perfumy scent and flavor. Great for marinating chicken, pork, lamb, or beef. We enjoy it a lot in our Lingle’s test kitchen. A very rare oregano!
