Tansy
(Tanacetum vulgare) T100
Perennial 4' Full Sun
Hardy/Herbaceous Yellow F,M,O,W!
$5.75 |
|
The ant repellant! The deeply
cut leaves of tansy make a safe and effective ant repellant, and is used in creams to kill
scabies. A 'tea' made from tansy can be sprayed where ants are invading the home and
should stop their ingression. The bright yellow flowers of tansy make it a lovely addition
to the landscape. The name tansy is derived from the Greek athanasia, meaning
"immortality", because it was used in ancient times in embalming sheets and
rubbed on corpses to save them from earthworms. Warning: Tansy should not be taken
internally, as it contains thujone and is an emmenagogue (provoking the onset of a
period.)

A fine substitute for French
tarragon! Spanish tarragon will grow all winter long in milder climates, and all summer
long in especially warm, humid climates where French tarragon doesn't grow well. Its
sophisticated anise-like flavor lends an aromatic fragrance to the kitchen and excitement

panel was delightfully surprised at how much Spanish tarragon tastes like the true French
tarragon. Lots of edible yellow flowers too.

oldest known remedies for intestinal worms. Wormwood is still used today to flavor
vermouth, however the thujone is removed. Warning: Wormwood should not be taken
